About the Role
We're looking for a Junior AI Engineer to join Briefly's Office of Legal Innovation team, where you'll play a crucial role in transforming legal workflows through AI-powered automation through leading technical development for AI Agents and LLM’s. This unique position combines forward deployment engineering with AI development, focusing on building intelligent agents that streamline legal operations and enhance attorney productivity.
What You'll Do
- AI Agent Development & Deployment
- Identify and prioritize use cases for AI automation within every department of the company, including legal operations and attorney workflows
- Design, build, and deploy AI agents tailored to legal document processing, research, and workflow automation
- Develop complex prompts and conversation flows to enable autonomous task completion
- Create and maintain schemas for structured data extraction and processing
Technical Implementation
- Build agentic workflows using advanced prompting techniques and orchestration frameworks
- Implement and fine-tune language models, including for legal-specific applications
- Develop RESTful APIs and integrations to connect AI agents with existing systems
- Work with databases to manage documents, case data, and agent outputs
Collaboration & Iteration
- Partner with the leaders in each department, attorneys, operations teams, and product managers to understand pain points and requirements
- Conduct experiments and analyze agent performance to refine prompting strategies
- Debug and optimize AI agents for accuracy, reliability, and user experience
- Stay current with the latest developments in AI, LLMs, and legal technology and agents
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Science, Data Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 0-2+ years of professional experience in software development or AI engineering
- Strong proficiency in Python for building applications and working with AI frameworks
- Hands-on experience with LLM prompting (ChatGPT, Claude, GPT-4, etc.) in professional or substantial personal projects
- Experience working with databases (SQL or NoSQL) and building RESTful APIs
Nice-to-Have
- Exposure to AI/ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-learn
- Experience with LangChain, LlamaIndex, or other agent orchestration frameworks
- Background in or curiosity about legal technology and workflows
