About The Role
We are seeking a Staff Full Stack Engineer to lead the technical direction and scaling of Mattermost’s core web platform, specifically designed for teams operating within defense and critical infrastructure sectors. The successful candidate will define and execute the architecture and technical strategy across our Go backend and React/TypeScript frontend. This role involves collaborating with multiple engineering teams to develop features that meet stringent security, compliance, and reliability standards. As a key technical leader, you will influence organizational standards, mentor senior engineers, and contribute to the open-source community. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in end-to-end software ownership, distributed systems, and high-availability architectures, with a passion for AI-enabled development workflows.
Qualifications
- Senior full-stack development experience in Go and React (or similar stacks)
- Proven track record of owning complex, distributed, or high-availability systems at scale
- Experience designing and consuming REST and WebSocket APIs with a solid understanding of networking fundamentals
- Relational database expertise, including schema design and query optimization, particularly with PostgreSQL
- Hands-on experience working with AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot for scaffolding, refactors, code reviews, and test generation
- Ability to influence technical direction across multiple teams without relying on formal authority
- Experience mentoring senior engineers and elevating team technical standards
- Comfort working in regulated or high-compliance environments, including enterprise security, government, or critical infrastructure
- Experience as a staff, principal, or technical lead engineer
- Contributions to or maintenance of open-source projects
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks like FedRAMP, ITAR
- Background in defense, intelligence, or critical infrastructure products
- Experience building tools or workflows on top of AI coding agents, including MCP servers or CI‑integrated agents
- Define and drive the technical architecture and roadmap for Mattermost’s core web platform across multiple engineering teams, covering Go, React, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, and Redis
- Establish and promote organizational standards and best practices for AI-agentic engineering workflows, ensuring correctness, security, and robust design decisions
- Lead the strategy for internal tooling and testing infrastructure to accelerate delivery and improve quality across the engineering organization
- Own and oversee testing strategies and quality benchmarks for frontend and backend systems, providing mentorship and conducting design reviews
- Architect and optimize REST and WebSocket API designs, grounded in strong networking fundamentals
- Collaborate closely with security, compliance, and product leadership to align technical initiatives with government and enterprise customer requirements
- Mentor senior engineers, fostering technical growth and acting as a technical multiplier across teams
- Contribute to the evolution of Mattermost’s open-source codebase, shaping its technical direction and community engagement
