Python Backend Engineer - Part-Time (with Full-Time Potential)
Where is Kevin Ltd. is on a mission to transform travel management with AI-driven solutions that anticipate needs, personalise experiences, and connect communities. We're gearing up for our major launch at Lisbon Web Summit in November 2025, with ambitious growth plans across Portugal and beyond.
The Role
We're on the hunt for a talented Python Backend Engineer to join our remote team and supercharge our API functionality. Starting part-time (20-25 hours/week), this role offers the opportunity to grow into a full-time position as we scale towards thousands of users.
This fully remote, location-independent role welcomes applicants worldwide but prefers candidates within Europe to support our existing team based in Portugal, UK, Serbia, Canada, and Spain.
Your Mission
* Design, develop, and deploy scalable API endpoints using FastAPI, Pydantic, and SQLAlchemy
* Tackle complex backend challenges and make our API a rockstar
* Ensure our API is secure, performant, and easy to maintain
* Interface with the product team and the mobile application developer to ensure features are implemented in a timely and stable manner
Technical Requirements
* Essential Python Skills:
+ Core: Python 3.12+, FastAPI, Pydantic, SQLAlchemy, httpx, pgvector
+ Database: PostgreSQL
+ Cloud: google-cloud libraries
+ Testing: pytest, locust (load-testing)
* Experience with microservices architecture and data warehousing concepts (dimensional modelling)
* Knowledge of travel/hospitality data structures and recommendation system data requirements
What We're Looking For
* 3+ years Python development with a focus on backend engineering
* Strong experience with building scalable, production-ready APIs
* Proven track record of working with SQL databases
* Startup mentality with the ability to work independently
* Interest in AI/ML applications and travel technology
Bonus Points
* Experience with travel booking APIs (TripAdvisor, Viator, GetYourGuide)
* Knowledge of recommendation system data pipelines
* Experience with geospatial data processing
