Before You Go

Research is key. Know not just the date and location, but also who's hosting and which employers will attend. Most fairs post a list of participating companies. Look up a few employers to learn about open positions and required skills. This helps you prioritize your time, especially at crowded events.

Dress to Impress

There's no strict dress code, but first impressions matter. Aim for "clean, neat, and organized." Nice slacks or a skirt, a blouse or button-up shirt, and dress shoes are safe bets. Clothes don't need to be expensive, but they should be clean and modest.

However, industry matters. For construction, wearing jeans and work boots can help employers visualize you on the job site. Devon Doss of Indiana Plan notes that dressing the part helps overcome biases, especially for women and young candidates.

What to Bring
