Billionaire investor Mark Cuban has shared a five-question checklist to help employees assess whether their company is future-proof in the age of AI. In a recent X post, Cuban outlined the key factors workers should consider before deciding to stay or leave their current job.
The 5 Questions to Ask
- Is your company growing?
- As an employee, what can you do to better contribute to those profits/goals?
- Are you intellectually challenged in your job?
- Are you spending as much time as you can to learn all you can about AI?
- Does your CEO understand AI?
Cuban emphasized that the fifth question is crucial: "If the CEO has no clue, start to think about another job. Your company is going to be challenged over the next few years."
Why AI Literacy Matters
According to Cuban, if your company is growing and you feel intellectually challenged, you can use AI to contribute to that growth. He stated, "The company will need as many people like you as it can get. It has a really good chance to outperform its competitors, because it has an AI literate workforce."
However, Cuban cautioned that AI is not a "silver bullet that guarantees success" but rather a tool that helps "smart people make smarter decisions."
Previous Career Advice
This isn't the first time Cuban has offered career advice related to AI. In December, he suggested that new graduates should work for small to medium-sized businesses where they can lead AI agent deployment. In April, he shared specific prompts to use with Claude to sharpen skills, such as "Tell me how to be an expert at creating agents for small businesses" and "Create study guides that ask me questions."
Cuban also warned against using AI to cut corners, saying that people who use AI to outsource thinking will not go far. He noted a bifurcation: "people who use AI so they don't have to learn anything and people who use AI so they can learn everything."
