LHH is seeking a REMOTE Senior Accountant with mortgage industry accounting expertise to join a fast growing Mortgage Company in the Southeast US. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional with a background in banking, private industry, or public accounting who is ready to bring specialized mortgage accounting knowledge to a growing organization.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Experience in mortgage banking, financial institution, or public accounting environment
- Hands-on experience with mark-to-market (MTM) entries
- Experience with MBS (Mortgage-Backed Securities) accounting
- Highly preferred: Experience with TBA (To-Be-Announced) hedging and related accounting treatment
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintains Branch P&Ls for multiple branches with varying structures, margins, compensation, and expense models in a timely manner
- Assists with month-end, quarterly, and year-end close processes and meets all deadlines
- Analyzes and reviews financial statements for accuracy of profit and loss and balance sheet statements for multiple branches; makes recommendations on areas of risk and opportunities where required
- Reconciles various balance sheet accounts and researches/resolves reconciling items
- Prepares standard general ledger, accrual, and allocation journal entries
- Records and reconciles mark-to-market entries for mortgage loan and securities positions
- Supports MBS accounting processes, including TBA hedge accounting where applicable
- Cross-trains and provides support for accounts payable
- Researches and provides explanations for variances and fluctuations in general ledger accounts
- Identifies and implements recommendations to improve accounting processes and procedures
- Develops and maintains strong relationships with internal and external customers
- Assists with internal and external audit requests
Compensation Range: $95,000 - $145,000

PTO Accrual:
- New full-time employees start earning PTO on their first day of employment
- Accrual rate: 1/24th of the annual PTO allotment per full pay period worked (i.e., paid semi-monthly, 24 pay periods/year)
- Current annual allotment: 15-20 days (PTO allotment increases with seniority/tenure)
