Job Description

Posted on: September 11, 2026

Remote (UK) — Contract / Internship — Project fee: £500**

The project

We're looking for a product/industrial designer to design a system that applies self-adhesive labels to bottles. This is a hands-on mechanical design brief, not a graphic design one — we need the mechanism, not the artwork.

You'll be designing (in concept, and where possible in enough detail to prototype) a way to:

- Feed and position a bottle so a self-adhesive label can be applied accurately and consistently

- Dispense the label from a roll or stack and apply it to the bottle with minimal wrinkling, misalignment, or waste

- Work reliably across a realistic run of bottles, not just a single demo unit

- Fit within a small-to-mid-size production setup (this is not a request to design an industrial labeling line from scratch — a smart, well-engineered jig, fixture, or semi-automated mechanism is exactly what we're after)

This is a fixed-fee project: £500 on delivery of a complete, workable design (concept, mechanism, and supporting drawings/documentation sufficient for us to evaluate and prototype it).

What you'll deliver

- A clear design concept for the label-applicator system (sketches, CAD, or both)

- An explanation of how it handles bottle positioning, label dispensing, and application

- Notes on materials, manufacturability, and any assumptions made (bottle size/shape, label size, run rate, etc. — we're happy to share reference specs once we're talking)

- Enough detail that we could hand it to a workshop or contract manufacturer and get it built

Who we're looking for

- A product design, industrial design, or mechanical engineering student, recent graduate, or early-career designer — internships and short contracts both welcome

- Comfort with mechanical/physical product design, not just digital or graphic design

- Experience with CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar) is a strong plus

- Bonus: any experience with packaging lines, jigs/fixtures, or small-scale automation

- Self-directed and comfortable working remotely against a clear brief
