Product Designer Engineer

London | Hybrid - 4 days per week in Shoreditch

Neulinx have partnered with an ambitious, London-based product company building creative, highly interactive software used by teams around the world.

They are looking for an exceptional Product Designer Engineer with deep product, interaction and visual-design craft. This is a design-first role for someone who cares intensely about how software behaves and feels - not simply how it looks.

You will take ambiguous ideas from rough concepts through interaction design, prototyping and polished shipped experiences. You will work closely with engineers and should be comfortable using code as part of your process, but this is not a frontend-engineering role: your centre of gravity should be design.

What you’ll do

  • Own end-to-end product design across existing products and new product bets.
  • Turn loose ideas into clear interaction models, prototypes and high-quality product experiences.
  • Sweat the detail across motion, transitions, responsiveness, feedback, hierarchy, states and edge cases.
  • Work closely with engineers to ensure the final product delivers on the original design intent.
  • Prototype ideas quickly - using Figma, motion/prototyping tools and, where useful, code.
  • Contribute to a thoughtful, cohesive design language across products.
  • Explore new ways for people to create, collaborate and work with software.

What we’re looking for

  • Significant experience in product design for sophisticated, highly interactive software.
  • An exceptional portfolio demonstrating strong visual taste, interaction design and meaningful ownership of shipped work.
  • Evidence of designing products that people use repeatedly - not just marketing sites, static interfaces, agency work or purely conceptual projects.
  • A strong instinct for behaviour and feel: what happens when users interact, how the system communicates, and where friction or delight lives.
  • Experience taking products from early exploration through to production alongside engineers.
  • Comfort working in code, ideally with modern web technologies such as React, TypeScript, HTML and CSS - but you should identify primarily as a designer, not a frontend engineer.
  • High agency, curiosity and comfort making decisions amid ambiguity.
  • Clear communication and the ability to articulate the reasoning behind your design choices.

Particularly relevant experience

We would be especially interested in designers who have worked on:

  • Creative tools, visual editors or canvas/spatial interfaces
  • Developer tools with a strong user experience
  • Collaborative or multiplayer products
  • Interaction-rich consumer applications
  • AI-native products with complex but intuitive user experiences
  • High-craft independent projects that demonstrate original product and interaction thinking

This could be for you if…

You are the designer on your team who is obsessed with the difference between a functional interface and an exceptional product experience. You are comfortable getting hands-on with prototypes and code, but your strongest contribution is your product judgement, interaction design and craft.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary + equity options
  • Hybrid working from our London office
  • 25 paid days holiday + UK public holidays
  • Private health insurance
  • Pension contribution
  • Income replacement & employee assistance programmes
  • Equipment allowance + great tech stack
