The role

We are seeking talented copy editors and proofreaders to join our global community of freelance experts in the publishing industry.

As a freelance editor on Reedsy, you will be matched with projects that suit your interests and expertise, working one-on-one with authors in the genres of your choice. Whether fiction or non-fiction, you will edit manuscripts for clarity and flow while maintaining the author's voice, and/or proofread for grammar, punctuation, and style consistency.

NOTE: Besides copy editing and proofreading, we also welcome experts in editorial assessment, developmental editing, indexing, query letter review, and book coaching. If you are interested in those services, simply select them when creating your profile on Reedsy.

How does it work?

On Reedsy, you receive requests from authors interested in your services. You can select the projects you want to work on, set your own rates, and determine your availability for new editing projects.

Requirements

Besides delivering work that meets a high professional standard, you'll be expected to understand your clients' needs and guide them through the editing process with your knowledge of the industry and the market. This is why we require:

• A minimum of 3 years of professional editing or proofreading experience.
• Demonstrated experience working for a traditional publisher or recognised journal, magazine, or newspaper (print or online).
• A portfolio of relevant work in the genres that you wish to work in.

Positively valued credentials:

• Relevant studies or copy editing/proofreading certificates (e.g. ACES, CIEP).
• Experience working for a renowned publishing company or a history of high-quality work with a bestselling author/book.
