About the role

ABOUT THE ROLE

Optum WellMed Florida is building the state’s premier value-based care platform, with more than 100 primary care locations serving Medicare Advantage and other patient populations through a full-risk model. Supported by TPG Capital and operating in a build-and-scale environment following a recent carve-out, the organization is positioned for accelerated growth.

The Director, Strategic Finance owns the enterprise financial model and the long-range view of the business. This is a hands-on role for someone who likes to be in the numbers: building the models, running the analysis, and turning open-ended questions into clear recommendations without step-by-step direction.

Reporting to the SVP, Financial Planning & Analysis, this leader works closely with the CFO, the executive team, and, as needed, the Board and ownership group. Key partners include the Operations Finance Partner, Chief Actuary, Transformation Office, Finance Systems, and Accounting. This is a remote position however candidates considered should reside in the Greater Tampa Bay area.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Enterprise Modeling and Long-Range Planning

•      Build and own the enterprise financial model: an integrated income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow for the full organization.

•      Lead the 3- to 5-year long-range plan, translating growth, clinic expansion, and operating assumptions into financial projections.

•      Model the drivers of a full-risk business, including membership, capitation revenue, medical cost, clinic economics, and overhead.

•      Run scenario and sensitivity analysis on key assumptions such as Medicare Advantage rates, membership growth, and medical cost trend.

Cash Forecasting and Capital Planning

•      Build and maintain the 13-week and longer-range cash forecasts, and report on variances to actual results.

•      Lead long-term capital planning for clinic openings, relocations, technology, and other major investments.

•      Set the return, payback, and risk standards that capital requests must meet, and review requests against them.

•      Model liquidity, working capital, and funding needs, and support discussions with lenders and ownership.

Strategic Opportunity and Investment Evaluation

•      Build business cases and financial models for new markets, de novo clinics, acquisitions, partnerships, and new service lines.

•      Evaluate payer contract and risk-arrangement economics with the operations and contracting teams.

•      Support due diligence on potential transactions, including market sizing, valuation, and integration cost.

•      Track approved investments against their business cases and report what is and isn’t delivering.

Executive Reporting and Presentations

•      Turn complex models into short, clear presentations and memos that support a decision.

•      Prepare long-range plan, capital, and strategic analyses for the executive team and, as needed, the Board and ownership group.

•      Define and track the enterprise KPIs that show progress against the long-range plan.

Finance Infrastructure

•      Help design the planning calendar, model governance, and reporting standards for a newly built finance function.

•      Find where automation, analytics, and AI tools can replace manual spreadsheet work, and help put them in place.

•      Partner with Accounting, Finance Systems, and FP&A so forecasts and reporting draw from one source.

YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS

•      Build the enterprise financial model and establish it as the single view leadership uses for planning decisions.

•      Stand up the long-range planning framework and a 13-week cash forecast with a regular review rhythm.

•      Deliver your first strategic business cases on priority opportunities, with recommendations leadership can act on.

•      Support the organization’s first full budgeting cycle by tying budget assumptions to the long-range plan.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

Required Qualifications

•      Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a quantitative discipline.

•      6+ years of progressive experience in management consulting, investment banking, private equity, financial services, corporate development, strategic finance, or FP&A.

•      Hands-on experience building integrated three-statement financial models from scratch.

•      Experience with long-range planning, cash forecasting, capital planning, or transaction analysis.

•      Advanced Excel modeling and strong PowerPoint skills.

•      A self-starter who can take an open-ended question, dig into the data, and drive the analysis to a recommendation with limited direction.

•      Clear communicator, comfortable presenting analysis and recommendations to senior leaders.

•      Proven ability to succeed in entrepreneurial, build-from-scratch organizations.

Preferred Qualifications

•      Healthcare experience, especially value-based care, Medicare Advantage, or provider risk models.

•      Management consulting, investment banking, or private equity background.

•      Client-facing presentation experience, such as building and presenting decks for consulting or banking clients.

•      Experience in post-carve-out, private equity-backed, or standalone finance builds.

•      Experience with Oracle, financial planning systems, and BI tools such as Power BI or Tableau.

•      MBA, CFA, or other relevant advanced credentials.

WHY JOIN

This role offers the chance to help build Florida’s leading full-risk value-based care organization from the ground up. You will own the model and long-range plan that leadership runs the business on, work directly with the SVP FP&A and CFO, gain visibility with the executive team and ownership group, influence where the organization invests and how it grows, and help shape a finance function built for scale.
