ABOUT THE ROLE

A fast-growing company based in New York City, is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to assist with advancing core people operations. You will be the go-to HR partner for employees and managers, owning day-to-day execution while shaping the HR infrastructure, processes, and culture that will support the organization’s next phase of growth.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Talent & onboarding

  • Deliver engaging new hire orientations and ensure a consistent, high-quality onboarding experience.
  • Oversee offboarding, ensuring compliant, well-documented, and respectful transitions.
  • Own full-cycle recruiting from intake to offer, including advising hiring managers, posting roles, screening candidates, coordinating interviews, and closing top talent.
  • Refresh and lead college recruiting and internship programs to build a sustainable early-career pipeline.

People operations, payroll & benefits

  • Process bi-weekly payroll processing, proactively identify and resolve discrepancies, and partner with internal teams or vendors to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Own day-to-day benefits administration, compensation changes, and leaves of absence, serving as a subject-matter resource for employees.
  • Keep job descriptions current and aligned with evolving business needs, internal levels, and regulatory requirements.

Performance, policies & compliance

  • Drive performance management cycles, including goal setting, and annual reviews, calibration support, and manager coaching.
  • Assist with updates to HR policies, employee handbook content, and manager resources, ensuring clarity and alignment with employment laws.
  • Maintain accurate organizational charts, employee directory, and core HR data in HR systems.

Culture, engagement & continuous improvement

  • Plan and coordinate employee engagement programs, events, and recognition efforts that reinforce the company’s values and culture.
  • Develop and deliver HR metrics and insights (e.g., headcount, turnover, time-to-fill, engagement themes) that inform leadership decisions.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify and automate HR workflows, implement scalable processes, and optimize HR systems and tools.
  • Stay current on HR best practices and emerging technologies and bring forward recommendations tailored to a high-growth environment.

WHAT YOU BRING

Experience & credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of progressive HR experience with broad responsibility across multiple HR disciplines; prior experience in a growth or startup environment is a plus.
  • SHRM-CP/SCP or HRCI certification strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and demonstrated ability to apply them in practical, business-focused ways.

Skills & mindset

  • Experience across employee relations, performance management, compliance, payroll, benefits administration, and training.
  • Demonstrated success partnering with cross-functional leaders (e.g., Legal, Compliance, IT, Finance) to solve complex people issues.
  • Solid skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint and confidence working in HRIS and related systems.
  • Clear, influential written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to earn trust and coach stakeholders at all levels.
  • Highly organized and proactive, comfortable juggling multiple priorities and driving projects from idea to implementation in a fast-paced environment.
  • Change-ready mindset: questions assumptions, champions continuous improvement, and thrives in matrixed and/or remote settings.
  • High degree of professionalism, discretion, and integrity, with a proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
