Remote Finance Manager
Remote working (UK) | £60,000 - £65,000 | High-Growth, Investment-Backed Technology Business
Are you a newly qualified or recently qualified accountant looking for an opportunity to take genuine ownership, work directly alongside an experienced CFO and play a key role in building a finance function from the ground up?
The ideal candidate to be considered is someone who is practice trained and has now stepped into industry and is looking for their next move into a Finance manager level position. Or is a newly qualified CIMA / ACCA within an industry position and has a strong management accounting background.
We're partnering with an ambitious, investment-backed technology and data business that is entering an exciting phase of international growth, with expansion underway across the US and Europe.
Following recent investment, the business is bringing its finance function in-house for the first time and is looking to appoint a Finance Manager who can help build the financial infrastructure, processes and reporting required to support its next stage of growth.
Importantly, you don't need to have already held a Finance Manager position.
The business is particularly interested in speaking with ambitious, hands-on accountants who have strong month-end and management reporting experience, enjoy improving processes and want to develop their careers within a growing technology business.
This isn't about finding someone who simply maintains an existing finance function.
It's about finding someone who wants to help build one.
The Opportunity
You'll become the first hire into a newly established in-house finance function, working directly with an experienced CFO who has an extensive track record of building and scaling finance teams across international businesses.
This is a genuinely broad position, combining financial control, management reporting, commercial exposure and finance transformation.
Initially, you'll take ownership of the day-to-day accounting and month-end processes, while helping establish the systems, controls and reporting infrastructure the business needs as it scales.
As the finance function develops, there is a clear intention to introduce additional support, allowing you to move into a broader Financial Controller position.
You'll also gain exposure to international expansion, board reporting, financial forecasting and the continued development of the business's finance technology.
One of the particularly attractive aspects of this opportunity is the emphasis on AI and automation.
The CFO is keen to build a modern, efficient finance function, using technology to reduce manual processes and allow finance to spend more time providing meaningful commercial insight.
You don't need to be an expert in AI or automation, but you should be curious about how technology can improve the way finance operates.
What you'll be doing
Financial Control & Reporting
- Take ownership of the month-end close, including reconciliations, journals and management accounts.
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure strong financial controls.
- Manage revenue recognition and deferred income across recurring revenue streams.
- Support the preparation of monthly board packs and management reporting.
- Take responsibility for the day-to-day accounting processes, including the transactional work while the function is being established.
Commercial Finance & FP&A
- Work directly with the CFO on forecasting, budgeting and financial analysis.
- Support the development of financial models and scenario planning.
- Help develop meaningful KPIs and management information.
- Partner with stakeholders across the business to provide financial insight.
- Gain exposure to the commercial drivers of a growing international technology business.
Systems, AI & Automation
- Help build and improve the finance function's processes, systems and controls.
- Identify opportunities to automate manual accounting and reporting activities.
- Leverage AI and modern finance technology to improve efficiency.
- Support the development of scalable processes as the business expands.
- Play a key role in shaping how the finance function operates going forward.
International Finance & Audit
- Support finance operations across the UK, US and South Africa.
- Coordinate outsourced international payroll processes.
- Manage the preparation for the business's external audit.
- Gain exposure to international entities and future consolidation requirements.
- Help develop the financial infrastructure required to support overseas expansion.
What we're looking for
We're particularly interested in speaking with newly qualified to approximately two years post-qualified accountants (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) who are looking for an opportunity to accelerate their development.
You could currently be working as a Management Accountant, Finance Manager or in a similar hands-on accounting position.
Ideally, you'll have:
- Strong month-end experience, with the ability to independently produce management accounts.
- A solid understanding of financial controls, reconciliations and financial reporting.
- Experience working within an SME or a smaller, growing finance function.
- The client will consider a first move from practice if the candidate has managament accounting experience not just audit experience.
- A willingness to remain hands-on with transactional accounting while building more efficient processes.
- Strong systems skills and an interest in automation and AI.
- The confidence to work autonomously within a remote environment.
Experience within SaaS, technology, subscription-based businesses or an investment-backed environment would be advantageous, particularly exposure to recurring revenue recognition and deferred income.
However, this isn't essential.
What matters most is your accounting foundation, attitude and ambition.
The type of person who will thrive
This opportunity will suit someone who enjoys taking ownership and isn't afraid to roll their sleeves up.
Someone who sees an inefficient process and wants to improve it.
Someone who is equally comfortable getting involved in the detail of month-end as they are supporting the CFO with board reporting or commercial analysis.
And importantly, someone who wants to learn.
You'll be working directly with a CFO who has built and developed finance functions across multiple businesses and is committed to supporting your progression.
For an ambitious accountant who ultimately wants to become a Financial Controller or Finance Director, this provides an opportunity to develop a much broader skill set than a traditional Finance Manager position.
You'll gain exposure to the operational, technical, commercial and strategic aspects of finance while helping shape a function that will evolve significantly as the business grows.
